Sojourn Church is on mission for Christ. Sometimes, the mission moves forward because of months of planning, prayer and hard work. The book of Nehemiah, for instance, is a story about God working through the careful and strategic work of His people.
And sometimes, the mission moves forward because of a sudden, surprising and dramatic work of the Spirit. Pentecost comes to mind.
In the spring of 2010, Sojourn had been reflecting together on the vision God had for us in the next ten years. In the midst of this season of prayer and reflection, God surprised us all. The members of Lakeside Baptist Church, a small congregation with a love for Jesus and a desire to reach their city and neighborhood with the gospel, voted to dissolve their church and merge with Sojourn. The roughly 30 Lakeside members began the process of becoming Sojourners, and donated their beautiful facility to Sojourn.
After months of prayer and seed-planting, Sojourn Jeffersontown officially launched on September 19, 2010 with well over 300 in attendance — 10 times the number that had been meeting at the facility just a few months prior.
We continue to expand, to grow spiritually together, and seek God’s will as we move forward in Jeffersontown.
